When is the Party Wall Act Required?

The Party Wall Act applies when works involve:

  • Building on or up to a boundary line.

  • Cutting into or altering a shared (party) wall or structure.

  • Excavating near neighbouring buildings or foundations.

  • Raising or extending a wall at the boundary.

If your project falls into one of these categories and matches certain criteria under The Act, you are legally required to serve notice to your neighbour(s) before works can commence.
